What is the Iron Horse Mothers Club?
IHMC is a nonprofit organization that serves the Danville, San Ramon, Dublin, Alamo, and Pleasanton community of moms and soon-to-be mothers. IHMC is not only a huge support network for our members, but also a resource for meeting other moms, joining organized playgroups, and participating in fun and interesting mom-focused and kid-focused events.
What are the criteria needed to become a member?
You must live in Danville, San Ramon, Dublin, Alamo, or Pleasanton and either be pregnant or currently have children. Our kids’ events are geared for children age 6 and younger, but all ages are welcome, as IHMCorganizes many activities for the whole family.
What subgroups do you offer within Iron Horse Mothers Club?
Book club, running/fit moms, ethnic-based (Chinese, Spanish-speaking, Indian moms), Breastfeeding moms, bunco, wine tasting, and of course playgroups.
Are dads allowed to join the Iron Horse Mothers Club?
Though the majority of our members are women, the answer is, yes, of course! Note that if you are in a two-parent household, only one parent needs to be a member in order for the whole family to participate in our events.
What events and activities are available to members?
Our activities vary from year to year, but some of our longstanding favorites are Fall Carnival, Mom’s Pamper Night, Preschool Preview Night, our evening “Speaker Series” on important topics of interest to parents, the Firehouse Tour, Disney on Ice, Pumpkin Patch Fun, children’s singers and other entertainers, and our many much-needed Moms Night Outs!
I’d like to attend some of the Moms Night Outs and other adults-only events. Do I need to wait until my baby is weaned?
You don’t need to wait! We welcome nursing infants to our adults-only events.
What is the cost to become a member?
Membership for one year is just $50. This goes toward the many programs and activities we coordinate each month as well as our minimal administrative and operating expenses. IHMC is 100% run by its parent volunteers.
Can I pay by check?
IHMC manages its membership entirely through BigTent, a leading online platform for community organizations. Unfortunately, BigTent is not equipped to process membership fees via cash or check. Credit cards and PayPal are accepted.
How do I sign up to become a member?
Visit our Membership page and click the Enroll button to start the process.
I am interested in advertising my business. Whom should I contact?
Advertising is free on our forum to our current members. We also have a specific subgroup for Moms In Business to help with networking and brainstorming! In addition, anyone – even nonmembers – can place a paid advertisement in our monthly newsletter by contacting email@example.com.
How are your playgroups broken down?
Our playgroups are organized according to the child’s due date or birthday. We also organize playgroups for working moms and mixed-age siblings.
I only want to join a playgroup. Do I have to be a member just to be in a playgroup?
Yes. Organizing playgroups for our members is one of the many benefits of our organization and you must become a member to receive this benefit.
I want to become a member but would like try it out first. Is that an option?
Due to insurance purposes and the privacy of our members, this is not something we can offer. However, we would be happy to answer any specific questions or concerns. Just email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I am interested in volunteering within IHMC. Is this something that is available to new members?
IHMC welcomes anyone interested in volunteering. In fact, most of our Steering Committee members volunteered almost as soon as they joined the club. IHMC is run 100% by a group of wonderful moms who give a small portion of their time to help coordinate events and make the club all that it is. Volunteering with us is not only a great way to share your talents and keep your resumé updated, but it’s also a terrific opportunity to get to know a particularly fun bunch of active moms!
To learn more about our open positions and our monthly Steering Committee meeting, please email email@example.com.
How do I get connected with others once I join?
Activities, groups, events, and discussion forums are at your fingertips through BigTent. Once you join, you will find a list of subgroups within BigTent and can join all that interest you. By joining these groups, you will be alerted to all their events and activities and have the ability to RSVP online. Another great way to get involved is by volunteering with our Steering Committee (see above).
When and where are the activities?
All activities vary in day & time (with the exception of playgroups) so everyone has a chance to participate, regardless of their schedule. Activities are never in the same place. We try to spread them all over our area to make it fair for everyone.
Can anyone host a playgroup?
Yes, anyone may host a playgroup. We have two types of playgroups: one type is for all age kids to play and the other type is age-specific. The age group playgroups are separated by year. Each playgroup has a coordinator who plans the date and locations each month in conjunction with the playgroup members.
Are all of the IHMC events free?
IHMC is able to absorb some of the cost for hosting events but not all. The events that have fees will clearly be listed on the event details. The benefit of IHMC hosting events is that we are able to get group discounted & non profit rates.
